The Honourable Leo Glavine, Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage and Sport Nova Scotia are pleased to announce that Lori Lancaster will be Nova Scotia’s Chef de Mission for the 2021 Canada Summer Games.
Lancaster is an experienced marketing and communications professional who works in the Alumni Relations department at Mount Saint Vincent University. She’s the head coach for the Lockview High School varsity girls’ basketball team and has a passion for sport.
Lancaster is a two-time Canada Games athlete, with five years of experience leading the UPEI women’s basketball program in the early '90s. She’s also worked with Atlantic University Sport as an assistant coach for UPEI and DAL women’s basketball programs and has over 20 years of community coaching involvement. She was part of the 2015 Canada Games mission staff for Team Nova Scotia, and currently sits on the Soccer Nova Scotia board of directors.
The Chef de Mission is the head of the delegation for Team Nova Scotia’s contingent of athletes, coaches, and managers who represent the province at the Canada Games. As chef, Lancaster will lead a team of mission staff who manage logistics, disseminate information, organize events, handle administrative tasks, troubleshoot, and liaise with the host society to support and promote Team Nova Scotia.
• The 2021 Canada Summer Games will take place in Niagara, Ontario from August 6-21, 2021.
• The competition is Canada’s largest multisport event, hosting over 5,000 athletes and coaches and 4,000 volunteers.
• The event will feature 18 sports including lacrosse after a 36-year hiatus from the games, and rugby sevens for the first time ever.
“I believe strongly that there are no other opportunities or life lessons that quite compare to those gained from sport. The challenges, the triumphs, the disappointments, and all the hard work that goes into being a committed athlete or coach is something that will carry an individual in all aspects of their life.”
-- Lori Lancaster, Canada Games 2021 Chef de Mission
“We are extremely pleased the minister has accepted our recommendation. The passion, experience and commitment Lori will bring to this position will have an immensely positive impact on our Team Nova Scotia athletes.”
-- Luke Anthony, 2021 Nova Scotia Canada Games Management Committee Chair
“As a former coach and as an athlete I appreciate how crucial Lori’s Chef de Mission role is in ensuring our athletes success at the upcoming Canada Games and their full enjoyment of the experience. The passion and commitment she has shown in the past will serve our mission team and our athletes well next summer.”
